Pumpkin Carving

Well, not exactly! Target had "Mrs. Potato Head" pumpkin sets! So Brittany carved the tiny one while Emma was sleeping. Then they decorated the other two together. Who knew that Mrs. Potato Head could be so pretty? LOL

Baking Cookies with Mama

Emma and her Mama had so much fun making Snickerdoodles! As you can see, Emma was quite helpful. The cookies are yummy!

Baby Storyboards

My SIL, Lori, showed me how to make one of these in August. The pattern was created by a CTMH consultant. I finally decided to give it a whirl. Of course, I couldn't make just one~I had to make four. I made them as a "new grandma" gifts. Each pocket folder has a different card that slides out. I used a pencil to write in the photo sizes that they can attach, as well as the word "journal" (which they can erase) where they can write whatever they'd like.

After making the four storyboards, I decided to that "quick and easy" was the plan for the accompanying cards. LOL This one is for a baby yet to be born, so I made a purple card.
Stamp: All Bummed Out Baby by Tiddly Inks for Stamping Bella; sentiment by Stamping Bella
Paper: DCWV Baby Girl Stack; CTMH
Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics, Copic Spicas
Accessories: Bella's Dots in Glitter Light Lilac, Bella's Favorite Ribbon in Polka Dot Lavender, 3-D Dots

These were a lot of fun to make once I got the hang of the pattern.

Camp Giffy & Papa

We are watching Emma for a long weekend. We've had lots of fun! It started out Friday night with playtime in the tub. She loved splashing Papa!
Papa used a colander to make it rain on her. She kept asking for more!
Here's a video clip:
video
Emma is really enthralled with Winnie the Pooh and his friends. We gave her Piglet as her sleepover surprise.
On Saturday, we went to the New England Aquarium in Boston. She called every fish "Nemo."

Then we took her to Boston's North End (aka Little Italy) for lunch. We dined at Artu's, our favorite Italian restaurant. Emma loved her tortellini alfredo! And what's a trip to the North End without a visit to Mike's Pastries? We bought cookies and canolis. Here, she is sharing a cookie with Papa.
She LOVED her canoli~a chocolate chip one. Yum!
Her favorite game is chasing Papa around the kitchen. Here's another video:
video
We watched "Finding Nemo" with her. We enjoyed it as much as she did! On Sunday, we took her to the mall. Papa HAD to take her to the Disney Store to buy her a Nemo! Of course, she woulnd't let me take her picture with Nemo. I guess she's tired of the 100+ flashes going off in her face since Friday. LOL But I did get one of her strolling through Macy's as she hugged Nemo.
Papa took her for a ride on the carousel. She loved it...until it was over. Then she cried and said, "Papa! Neigh!" (She thinks "neigh" is the name for a horse.)

Yup...naptime!
After Emma's nap, she hugged Papa and then we headed out to the backyard.

Emma just said goodnight to her Mama, and she was sad when the call ended.
I'm not sure who had more fun: Emma, Giffy, or Papa!

Ice Skating~A Vacation, A Challenge, and A Dream!

Our beloved Em and Nicky are on a wonderful Stampin' Cruise! While they are enjoying the Caribbean, Shannan issued a challenge to the Bella Sistahs stuck on land: create a card (using any Stamping Bella stamp) based on a water theme.

Well, my favorite kind of water is frozen~not in cubes, but for skating! So, of course, I had to use Glideabella! My SIL, Lori, made a Glideabella card for me in January. I have been a figure skater since I was a tiny girl, so I just HAD to have Glideabella! She was my first and is my favorite Bella!

Now, the story of my card: We used to live in Colorado. A few years ago, we went back to Breckenridge for a ski trip. I don't ski anymore, but I still skate~so of course we had to skate on Keystone Lake! It is a shallow,  5 acre lake that totally freezes. In fact, we could see fish frozen in place right through the ice! The lake is located at the bottom of the Keystone ski runs, so you can watch the skiers while you skate! They Zamboni the surface so it is like glass. There are hockey nets in several spots, so you can skate or play hockey. Skating on Keystone Lake is by far my favorite thing to do on vacation! Here is a photo of a small portion of the lake. You can see the ski runs in the background.

Here is my favorite photo~Rick and I stealing a kiss! My favorite tree is in the background~the Colorado Blue Spruce. Its an evergreen with touches of turquoise. It's beautiful!

The above photo was my inspiration for the card I made for this challenge. I sketched in a Colorado Blue Spruce, but it's hard to see because of the reflection off of the Liquid Glass. This card shows what I dream of while I sleep. Of course, in my dreams I have her shape and I'm an Olympian! LOL

Stamp: Glideabella by Stamping Bella
Paper: CTMH Aspen
Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics, Copic Spicas
Accessories: Taylored Expressions Ribbon, CTMH Liquid Glass, CTMH Waxy Flax in Vanilla, misc. buttons

Thanks for a fun challenge, Shannan!

Sweet Little Ladybug

When Brittany was pregnant, she asked me to design and make a crib quilt/accessories for the baby: daisies (Brittany's favorite flower) and ladybugs for a girl, and all things Red Sox for a boy. When she found out that she was having a girl, here's what I designed and made (excluding her name):

Last year, Brittany found this adorable ladybug costume! Emma will wear it this year. This photo was taken in August (18 months old). I LOVE her little bare feet! (She'll wear black leggings with it.)

I'll always love ladybugs now~who wouldn't?

Bella Monster Bash Challenges

I missed the actual bash because I was singin' and dancin' with my girl at the Carrie Underwood concert! SO MUCH FUN!

Yesterday, I did have some time to complete the Bella Monster Bash challenges. The first one was to create a card without using any ribbon. Here's my go at it:

Stamps: trick-or-treat-abella by Stamping Bella; pumpkin from the Falling for You set by MFT
Paper: Debbie Mumm's Harvest & Holiday Glitter Matstack, misc. black and purple
Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics, Copic Spicas
Accessories: Bella's Dots in Glitter Coal, 3-D Dots

The second challenge was to make a "treat" container. I have never made a box or bag before, so this was quite the challenge for me!

Stamps: Little Witch and Battiful Darling by Tiddly Inks for Stamping Bella
Paper: Debbie Mumm's Harvest & Holidays Glitter Matstack, CTMH Black, misc. yellow
Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics, Copic Spicas

Have a GREAT Saturday!

Autumn Splendor in Bolton, MA

The autumn colors are peaking, so I took Emma leaf hunting today! We live in Bolton, a small country town. It's almost 300 years old and is approximately 5 square miles in size. It is primarily an apple orchard town with a few farms and ranches in the mix.

Here are my favorite photos. The first one is my house, and the next one is the view from my front porch. It's also my view while I write books. Not a bad life, huh?

This is a Maple tree in all its splendor!

These are out and about in Bolton.

I just love this one. It's the view from an apple orchard, overlooking the two small churches along Main St. That's how you know I live in a small town~there's actually a narrow road called Main Street! No shopping, though~just the schools, police station, library, post office, Town Hall, and a few churches. The library and police station are actually in old houses!

And these are Emma's favorites!

Happy Autumn!

Still Dancin' with My Best Friend!

Brittany bought me tickets to the Boston Carrie Underwood concert for my birthday/Christmas. IT WAS AWESOME! Not only was Carrie Underwood fabulous, but so was Little Big Town, the opening band. They put on a GREAT show!
Here's Little Big Town:

Here's Carrie Underwood:

At the end of "All American Girl," Carrie brought a 5-year-old sweetie named Sarah on stage to finish the song with her.
TOO CUTE!

Carrie said that her favorite song that she has recorderd--or ever will record--is "Jesus, Take the Wheel." Such a great song!

Brittany and I bought matching T-shirts. It has been about 20 years since I bought a T-shirt at a a concert! The whole night was SO MUCH FUN! We laughed, we danced, and we sang.
I'll remember it always! Thank you, Brittany~I loveys you!

Busy, Busy, Busy!

I haven't had time for cards or scrapbook layouts. I am busy submitting manuscripts. My office is buried in paper! I love the writing process, but the submissions process is very tedious. Each publisher has specific submission guidelines, and it takes forever to sort through them all. Hopefully it will be worth it in the end!

Ahh...I can look forward to tomorrow! For my birthday/Christmas gift, Brittany bought two tickets for us to see Carrie Underwood in concert tomorrow night! I am SOOOOOOOO excited! A night out with my best girlfriend AND Carrie Underwood! Yippee!

The Cutest Little Pumpkin in the Patch

We took Emma to the pumpkin patch today. If you know me at all, you won't be surprised that I took 100 photos! I whittled them down to a mere 45. LOL These are my favorites:

Your Lens

I've been working on a manuscript, so I haven't done much posting over the last few days. Brittany is off today (she's a teacher, and she's off for Yom Kippur), so she, Emma, and I are going to go shopping and out for lunch. Then we'll stamp and scraabook while Emma naps. Sounds like the perfect day!

Since the colors are almost  peaking here, I thought I'd post a photo and a lyric I wrote a few years ago. I was just so moved by the palette of colors surrounding me. This is the view from my front porch:

Your Lens

Point my lens at the trees, try to capture the leaves
their stories told as they begin to fall.
Once but mere little shoots, then You set down their roots
and now they've grown more than thirty feet tall.

Bright yellows and greens were the first colors seen
as autumn knocked upon summer's door.
Then the air became chilled, the crisp nights became still
crowns of red jewels all the trees now adorn.

The trees sway and they dance by the brush of Your hands,
with gentle breezes and in mighty winds.
They weather the seasons, they keep changing with time,
they'll be stripped bare soon but won't seem to mind.

I shoot frame after frame and their beauty's the same,
my soul so moved that I scarcely can breathe.
And I wonder, my God, when You look through Your lens
if this tree's all that You hoped it would be.
Oh, to see this tree through Your lens...

On this crisp autumn day, my soul dances and sways
keeping time with the touch of Your hand.
But my colors all change and my leaves rearrange
when pain and fear upon my branches land.

God, help me weather seasons, help me change with time.
Strip me bare, Lord, and I'll try not to mind...

Now Your lens points to me, aimed to capture my leaves
true colors revealed as my leaves start to fall.
I'm a mere little shoot, but in Christ I have roots.
In Him, may I stand more than thirty feet tall.

As You shoot frame after frame, is my beauty the same?
Is Your soul moved that You scarcely can breathe?
And I wonder, my God, when You look through Your lens
am I all that You hoped I would be?
Oh, to see myself through Your lens...

God, help me weather seasons, help me change with time.
Strip me bare, Lord, and I'll try not to mind...

As You shoot frame after frame, is my beauty the same?
Is Your soul moved that You scarcely can breathe?
And I wonder, my God, when You look through Your lens
am I all that You hoped I would be?

Oh, to see myself through Your lens...

Cards, Cards, and MORE Cards!

Saturday was "World Cardmaking Day." I have to be honest and say that I never knew this day existed! I was sick last week and over the weekend, and didn't feel like doing much. So I was perusing Splitcoaststampers and found out about this day. There were a lot of fun challenges and chat threads happening on Saturday. I wasn't up to the chat threads, but I did manage to complete the seven challenges. It was fun!

The first challenge (WCMDSC08) was to follow a particular sketch. Here's my card:

Stamps: Falling for You by My Favorite Things
Paper: DCWV Fall Glitter Stack; Debbie Mumm Harvest & Holidays Stack; CTMH Goldrush and Chocolate
Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics, Copic Spicas
Accessories: Bella's Dots in Glitter Dark Cocoa, 3-D Dots, SU Round Tab Punch

The second challenge (WCMDFS08) was to CASE a particular person's card. This means to semi-copy it, changing two to three things. Here is the card I CASEd. I changed the image, using a similar one. I also changed the sentiment and the paper.

Stamp: Rain or Shine by My Favorite Things
Paper: CTMH Paper Garden
Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics, Copic Spicas
Accessories: CTMH silver brads, 3-D Dots, SU Ticket Corner Punch, corner rounder, Sickles in Waterfall

The third challenge (WCMDIC08) was a lot of fun~it was to use the current Coldwater Creek catalog cover as your inspiration! The catalog is bright yellow with some autumn leaves in the center. Here's my interpretation:

Stamp: Daisybella by Stamping Bella
Paper: DCWV The Fall Flitter Stack; SU Barely Banana, Really Rust, and Close to Cocoa
Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics, Copic Spicas
Accessories: Bella's Dots in Glitter Sage, Making Memories Blossoms in Bloom, Nestabilities

Challenge number four (WCMDWT08) was to make a card showing trees or leaves. I had so much fun coloring the pile of leaves in the first challenge, that I decided to use that stamp again!

Stamp: Falling for You by My Favorite Things
Paper: DCWV Fall Glitter Stack, SU Close to Cocoa
Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics, Copic Spicas
Accessories: Misc. ribbon, 3-D dots

The fifth challenge (WCMDTLC08) involved a technique I haven't used before: nested flowers. I am not sure I like how this turned out, but I will definitely play with it again.
This card is also for HSAC4 on SCS.
Stamp: Ballet Sophie by Hanna Stamps
Paper: CTMH Cutie Pie
Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics, Copic Spicas
Accessories: Bella's Dots in Crackle Pink, Nestabilities, flower brad, Stickles in Cotton Candy

Challenge six was "No P's." No Patterned paper, no pastels. Keep it simple was the rule. I love the Stella stamps~she's a fairy godmother, and she just makes me laugh! I used a sketch designed by Jamie Morris for BSC49 on SCS. Here's what I did:

Stamps: Tangled Stella by Jan Dolby for Stamping Bella; sentiment by Stamping Bella
Paper: CTMH Clover Meadow and Cranberry
Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics, Copic Spicas
Accessories: Bella's Dots in Glitter Gold, Nestabilities, misc. ribbon, Scribbles 3-D Paint in Iridescent White Mist

The final challenge was called "Lemon Lime Twist" (WCMDCC08). This challenge required 5 specific colors. I used a BSC designed by Jamie Morris. Here's what I did:

Stamps: Battiful Darling and Little Witch by Tiddly Inks for Stamping Bella
Paper: CTMH Black, Gray Wool, Colonial White, Key Lime, and Honey; DCWV Fall Glitter Stack
Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics, Copic Spicas
Accessories: Bella's Dots in Solid Black, CTMH Edge Distresser, Cuttlebug Embossing Folder, Nestabilities

That's it! Whew...this was a long post! TFL

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree...

Okay...so I am a nut~I LOVE Christmas music! So I have been playing it as I make a few Christmas cards! My family isn't too fond of Christmas music in October, but once the leaves turn here, I am set! This card is for HSAC5 on SCS.

Paper: Debbie Mumm Harvest & Holidays Stack
Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics, Copic Spicas

Every Friday, Taylor of Taylored Expressions posts a cupcake challenge. Who doesn't love cupcakes? It's so fun to play along with everyone! Silly me~I thought it was by 11 pm Eastern time, and it was actually do at 11 am. Oh well...it was fun to make!

Tres Amigos

Yesterday, I was so pleased to receive this award from Jenn and from Hope! My kids (they are all adults) are quite amused by the fact that I have found such good "cyber" friends through Splitcoaststampers~women I have never met but whom I treasure! LOL Well, they can laugh all they want~but these ladies are the sweetest, kindest people.

Jenn's blog is beautiful and she always leaves such sweet comments on other blogs. She was recently evacuated from her home due to Hurricane Ike. She is home now, and I am so glad to have her back online! Her creations are gorgeous! Go check out her blog~you will LOVE what you see!

And then there's Hope~she was my first SCS friend. It is amazing how muck we are alike~both in personality and in life experiences! We are both Christians. We were both elementary teachers. She is an editor for Mailbox Magazine (for elemetnary teachers), often working on literature projects involving children's books; I have worked as an editor/tech writer and now write children's books. My books are about guinea pigs; her dad raised and bred guinea pigs. Both of our fathers were in the Air Force. I could go on and on. She has become a dear, dear friend! I so enjoy our e-mail chats! I told her that I feel like Meg Ryan in "You've Got Mail" because I become SO excited when I get an e-mail from her! LOL Her cards are stunning~she inspires me time and time again with new ideas. Go enjoy her blog~you'll be glad that you did!

Now I will pass this on to my dear SIL, Lori. She is the one who got me started on the stamping. It all started with this glideabella card she sent me in January!

Well, I am a figure skater, and that card got me hooked on the Bellas. Thanks, Lori! (Rick might say, "Yeah...thanks a lot Lori! LOL) I am always copying her ideas. Her scrapbook layouts are amazing!
And what would I do without our frequent chats? It's so fun to have a friend who loves to scrap and stamp as much as I do! Lori's blog is a must see! You will loveys it like I do!

So here's to Jenn, Hope, and Lori~with lots of love and warm hugs!
